Client: Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation (ALPA)
In 2022 the Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation (ALPA) developed a Yolnu community-led photography exhibition at the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT (MAGNT), in Darwin to celebrate it’s 50th anniversary.

The exhibition
Gumurr’manydji Manapanmirr Djama (Making successful business together), curated by Yolnu communities included historical vignettes of life in Milingimbi, Galiwin’ku, Gapuwiyak, Ramingining and Minjilang – remote communities, hundreds of kms from Darwin.
Rise was engaged to develop an immersive
virtual tour of the exhibition to allow these communities to see the exhibition, and for the school children to be able to learn their ancestral stories.
“This gallery is a good thing for our kids. It means they can learn from our ancestors about the way we used to do things and where we have come from. It’s important for them to know their story through the photos and to be able to pass down these stories…about their ancestors doing fishing business and working on farms.”
